The end of the year is a good time to reflect on accomplishments and incompletions. My annual exercise used to be to create a plan for the next year based on everything I had not finished from the previous year and commit to working harder at reaching those goals. So in effect, I recommitted to carrying my baggage forward or driving forward while continuously looking in the rear-view mirror! *head smack*
I plan on doing things differently this year. I will still honour where I’ve come from, that is, keep the lessons learned so I don’t repeat them and create a new future by:
Making a list of everything I had wanted to accomplish this year – all of it – done or not. This allows me to recognize what I can celebrate and be proud of, and see where I have fallen a bit short.
Complete the items on the list that did not get accomplished by:
recreating and moving it consciously as a project or to-do into the new year
delegating it to someone else
trashing it if it no longer serves my goals.
Last year’s priorities are not the same as this year’s and because I am busily moving forward, I never check to see if there is anything I need to discard. Completion therefore is going to play a big role this year end.
What are you hanging on to that needs to be released? Is it a project, a belief, a way of thinking that doesn’t serve you and your goals anymore? Perhaps it is a relationship or job that is constantly chipping away at your self-worth? What is something new or different you can say or do to move the needle on your life forward?
So, to create a powerful and fulfilling 2017, I challenge you to LIST it, COMPLETE it and SAY SOMETHING NEW about it.
