Who I Say I Am

Do you know who you are in life? What are you willing to take an unwavering stance for? What are you here to achieve? Does your purpose or goal seem to fluctuate with your circumstances? You are not alone, this is a place many of us visit from time to time.

I was recently challenged on my stand – that is, what I’m committed to for my life and the world around me. I caught myself getting defensive about this and noticed that it had me feeling inadequate.

While travelling by bus from La Malbaie to Quebec City, I had time to reflect on this, and who I really am. Turning to gaze out the window, I saw a stack of lumber ready for transportation to the lumber mill. It struck me that who I say I am is an unmovable commitment to making a difference in women’s lives like the timber in the forest. Just as the timber can be shaped to different uses and yet remain the same hard wood (wood is wood whether it is shaped as a table, chair, cabinet or plank), any circumstances can arise to challenge me and yet I am unshakeable. Like the timber maintains its integrity, so too do I remain firm in my stand, in what I stand to see in the world.

I am unstoppable.
So what is your “stand”? Where do you give up on your stand? Do you need to do more work to deepen your stand?
